Government Treatment Of The National Health Service

That this House notes the complete lack of understanding of the NHS today, shown by members on Government benches who signed EDM 1037; notes that since this Government's reforms were introduced, waiting lists, bureaucracy and waste have grown and the number of nurses and beds has fallen; notes that the British Medical Association have highlighted the fact that as a result of the 'reforms' decisions are increasingly being made on the basis of contracts and not on the basis of clinical need, and that it is an 'undeniable fact' that there is now a two-tier health service; notes that what scares the public about the National Health Service is not what the Labour Party is saying about the National Health Service but what the Government is doing to it; congratulates the Right honourable Member for Derby South for bringing these important issues to the attention of the House; and finally condemns the Prime Minister for refusing to withdraw the allegations which he made which cast doubt not only on the veracity of the Right honourable Member for Derby South but on that of the patients and doctors involved in these cases.
