UGANDA'S DEBTS
EDM number 909 in 1993-94, proposed by Alan Meale on 22/03/1994.
That this House is aware of the vast and unpayable debts of approaching $3 billion currently owed by Uganda to institutions like the International Monetary Fund and World Bank; recognises that such a debt is draining that country of at least $100 million annually, thereby endangering its struggle towards economic freedom and recovery; and calls upon Her Majesty's Government to press all such multilateral funding bodies to take immediate action to cease such repayments, cancel all debts to Uganda and establish a meaningful debt relief fund to help restructuring of a poor Third World nation.
