That this House notes that having retired from his post as Chairman of Midlands Electricity, Bryan Townsend was awarded a pension worth ú2,043 approximately per week and then returned to his job part-time with a salary of ú3,173 per week whilst continuing to receive his company pension; contrasts this with the Government's treatment of the unemployed under the job seekers' allowance scheme under which a newly unemployed person finding a part-time job will see their benefit of approximately ú45 cut pound for pound if they earn more than ú5 per week; believes this is further evidence of the unfair society created by the Conservative Government; and calls for a new regulatory system to curb boardroom excess in the privatised utilities and to restore public accountability.
