Sewage Treatment Plants In Yorkshire

That this House is extremely concerned at the potential threat to public safety posed by Yorkshire Water's decision to contract out sewage treatment in its central area; believes the treatment of water and sewage to be the core operations of the industry, so central to public health in this country, that they are and will remain a public responsibility, and should stay under the direct operational control of water companies subject to close scrutiny of regulator, Government; and urges the Secretary of State for the Environment to take steps to prevent the `outsourcing' of sewage or water treatment in Yorkshire or any other area of the country.
