Fuel Poverty And Pay Increases
EDM number 61 in 1994-95, proposed by Margaret Ewing on 21/11/1994.
That this House regards as obscene the massive pay increases awarded to British Gas executives at a time when charges to domestic consumers are increased as a result of British Gas policy and Her Majesty's Government's insistence on increasing VAT on domestic fuel; condemns all these policies which hit the most vulnerable in society, whose fuel poverty is to the detriment of their health, general well being and threatens lives; and calls for the reversal of these policies and the immediate implementation of a statutory cold climate allowance to be paid throughout the winter months and a programme of publicly-funded house insulation.
