Football Trust
EDM number 514 in 1996-97, proposed by Joan Walley on 11/02/1997.
That this House applauds the magnificent quality of football from league and non-league clubs alike displayed so far up to the fifth round of the Littlewoods FA Cup Challenge and the benefits and pride enjoyed by communities supporting those clubs; regrets that the direct effect of the now twice weekly National Lottery has been to reduce drastically the income to the Football Trust from around ú37 million pre-Lottery to ú13 million; acknowledges that the Football Trust has had no alternative but to impose a moratorium on grants for safety/stadium improvements and football community development plans; regrets that this is undermining the viability of non-Premiership clubs and undermining their ability to comply with the Football Spectators Act 1989; and calls on the Government to take action to include the Football Trust as an accredited recipient of the Lottery awards.
