Conduct Of The Leader Of The Opposition And City Mortgage Corporation

That this House regrets the failure of the Leader of the Opposition to give to a worthy cause the ú20,000 gift he received from the managing director of the loan sharks, City Mortgage Corporation; welcomes the condemnation by the Office of Fair Trading of the oppressive interest rates and redemption charges imposed by CMC and others; and is appalled that the three main directors of CMC, David Steene, Gerald Epstein and Martin Brand, each received ú578,000 last year, the proceeds of their work in repossessing the homes of their clients and inflicting life-long debt on them.
