Pedestrianisation Of Parliament Square And W.r.i.s.t.

EDM number 911 in 1997-98, proposed by David Chaytor on 05/03/1998.

That this House congratulates Sir Norman Foster on the launch of the World Squares for All project; particularly welcomes the proposals to create pedestrian areas linking the National Gallery and Parliament Square; calls on all honourable Members living in the City of Westminster to join Westminster Residents In Favour of Sustainable Transport in its campaign supporting the pedestrianisation of Parliament Square; and urges the Government to work closely with the City of Westminster Council in developing these proposals as a flagship project which would serve as a model for other projects designed to prioritise the needs of the pedestrian, assist with the conservation of historic buildings and improve the quality of life in cities throughout the United Kingdom.
