New Deal And Further Education Students

EDM number 945 in 1997-98, proposed by Dafydd Wigley on 09/03/1998.

That this House, while supporting policies to tackle unemployment and skills shortages, regrets that under current proposals for the New Deal, those outside the 19 to 24 years age group, those with more than three GSCE grade C or above or those on full-time courses of more than one year's duration cannot attend college whilst receiving jobseeker's allowance; regrets further that jobseeker's allowance is not available to those on NVQ level 3 courses; believes that level 3 courses may be relevant to such candidates; and calls on the Government to bear in mind the needs of mature students and unemployed adults in implementation of the New Deal.

This motion has been signed by a total of 21 MPs.
