Violence In Slaughterhouses (No. 3)
EDM number 286 in 1998-99, proposed by DN Campbell-Savours on 08/02/1999.
That this House notes the assault on a Meat Hygiene Service inspector at Rose County Foods of Sawley, Clitheroe in Lancashire; recalls that an inspector escaped through a window to avoid physical attack, was later kidnapped, bundled into the back of a car, returned to the plant, thrown into a vat of specified risk material, was totally submerged, came out smelling strongly of meat offal and was covered in dye; notes that the meat inspector involved was very frightened and upset; questions how the police can call such an incident a prank that went wrong; and demand that Rose County Foods pays substantial damages to the meat inspector for the distress and damage incurred on their own premises.
