MR MIKE TYSON'S PROPOSED VISIT TO SCOTLAND

EDM number 748 in 1999-00, proposed by Norman A Godman on 17/05/2000.

That this House is of the view that the Scottish Football Association and Celtic Football Club should decline any requests, made by a boxing promoter, to stage a boxing match at Hampden or Parkhead involving Mr Mike Tyson, the American boxer who has a history of violent behaviour towards women; notes that significant sums of public money have helped create the national stadium and that it would be both entirely inappropriate and deeply offensive to allow either venue to be used by Mr Tyson and his management team to make substantial financial gain; and therefore calls upon the Home Secretary to reject Mr Tyson's application for a visa which would enable him to travel to Scotland for such an unsavoury event.

This motion has been signed by a total of 43 MPs.
