Mobile Phones On Trains
EDM number 749 in 1999-00, proposed by David Chaytor on 17/05/2000.
That this House deplores the willingness with which many mobile phone users on trains divulge intimate details of their domestic and business affairs to their fellow passengers; further notes the alarming increase in the frequency of mobile phone use on trains and the consequent inconvenience to non-phone using passengers; congratulates Heathrow Express on the introduction of Quiet Zones on its trains for passengers who wish to work and/or travel in peace; and calls on the Government to encourage the rail operators to designate mobile phone free zones on all trains, following the precedent established by smoking and non-smoking sections.
