Crime Reduction In Sutton

EDM number 906 in 1999-00, proposed by Tom Brake on 28/06/2000.

That this House welcomes the positive partnerships between the police, local authorities and the Probation Service, such as that in the London Borough of Sutton, and their role in tackling crime; is concerned that the good work of all the above bodies in tackling crime such as graffiti could be undermined in Sutton and elsewhere by the circulation of a magazine called Graphotism, which features photographs of graffiti on commuter trains, and markets products for use by the graffiti artists; further notes that many people are of the view that it encourages people to break the law; and also believes that more should be done by paint suppliers to ensure the materials they sell are put to lawful uses; and calls on the Government to investigate what action can be taken against the publishers of such magazines.
