Pigeons In Trafalgar Square (No. 2)

EDM number 314 in 2000-01, proposed by Diane Abbott on 08/02/2001.

That this House warmly welcomes the agreement between the Greater London Authority and Mr Bernard Rayner to cease commercial feeding of pigeons in Trafalgar Square; notes that the GLA was originally advised by experts in bird ecology that a phased withdrawal of food over one month would avoid any possibility of cruelty to the pigeons; further notes that the Mayor has extended the phased withdrawal of feeding to the pigeons from one month to two and a half months as part of his agreement with Mr Rayner; welcomes the improvements that have already been made to the square since the GLA assumed responsibility for it in October 2000, including the halving of reported crime; and now looks forward to Trafalgar Square becoming a clean, safe and pleasant place for Londoners and tourists to enjoy.

This motion has been signed by a total of 12 MPs.
