Agrimonetary Compensation

EDM number 337 in 2000-01, proposed by Patrick Nicholls on 13/02/2001.

That this House notes that, until April 2001, ú200 million of EU funds are available to United Kingdom farmers under the agrimonetary compensation scheme; is aware that a failure on the part of Her Majesty's Government to claim this money would have a catastrophic effect on an industry which has already suffered a 90 per cent. fall in incomes over the past five years; is concerned that the savings, made by the Government through the effect of exchange rates on payouts on certain agricultural subsidies, are not redirected into the farming industry; notes further that ú55 million will be recouped on the Sheep Annual Premium Scheme alone; and calls on Her Majesty's Government to bid for the ú200 million before the European Commission's deadline in April 2001.

This motion has been signed by a total of 15 MPs.
