Bayeux Tapestry

EDM number 487 in 2000-01, proposed by Jane Griffiths on 26/03/2001.

That this House notes that the only full-size copy of the Bayeux tapestry in the world is housed in Reading Museum, that the tapestry was made in 1885 by the needlewomen of Leek in Staffordshire and that the tapestry was sold to the Mayor of Reading, Arthur Hill, in 1895; commends the staff of Reading Museum for their stewardship of this unique piece of work; and also commends Reading Museum for its acknowledgement of the tapestry's Staffordshire roots.

This motion has been signed by a total of 18 MPs.
