Situation In Korea

EDM number 495 in 2000-01, proposed by George Galloway on 28/03/2001.

That this House notes with concern the suspension of dialogue between the United States of America and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) by the Bush administration; deplores any attempt to increase tension on the Korean peninsula as a pretext for proceeding with National Missile Defence; believes that dialogue is the only way to advance the Korean peace process in the interests of the Korean people, North and South, as well as of international peace and security, as demonstrated, in particular, by the North-South Summit last year and President Kim Dae Jung's policy of 'sunshine diplomacy'; accordingly welcomes the decision of the EU Summit in Stockholm to send a high-level delegation to North and South Korea to expedite the peace process; and calls on the present US administration to resume comprehensive dialogue with the DPRK with a view to resolving all issues of concern.

This motion has been signed by a total of 27 MPs.
