CHILDREN'S RIGHTS COMMISSIONER

EDM number 513 in 2000-01, proposed by Hilton Dawson on 02/04/2001.

That this House welcomes the opportunity to consider the Children's Rights Commissioner Bill on Friday 6th April; acknowledges that the proposal to establish a Children's Rights Commissioner for England will complement the Children's Commissioner for Wales as well as similar posts under consideration in Scotland and Northern Ireland; recognises that the proposition has the support of thousands of constituents, many children's organisations and a large number of honourable Members on all sides of the House; expresses its commitment to establishing an independent office which will be crucial to improving the protection of children, promoting these human rights and encouraging their participation in the decisions which affect their lives; urges the Government to support this Bill; and calls upon every honourable Member to attend the House on Friday to give it their resounding support.

This motion has been signed by a total of 49 MPs.
