Rank,fees And Qcs

EDM number 583 in 2000-01, proposed by Austin Mitchell on 10/04/2001.

That this House considers that the rank of QC is now an outdated anachronism of more value in increasing the fees of recipients than improving justice; and calls on the Lord Chancellor either to abolish the title altogether or to require all QCs to sign contracts with his Department agreeing that any increased income accruing to them consequent on their new rank will be paid to the Legal Aid Fund.

This motion has been signed by a total of 22 MPs.
