Trade Sanctions Against Israel

EDM number 1722 in 2001-02, proposed by Mike Hancock on 24/09/2002.

That this House believes that the suspension of trade with Israel will not be constructive and is not in the best interests of the Palestinian people who rely on Israel for employment; believes that a trade suspension with Israel could result in Israeli and Palestinian redundancies, which would only worsen their already difficult humanitarian situation; further believes that the only constructive action by the British Government is political advice as part of the Quartet, as it is doing at present, where it is seen as a non-biased, valued supporter of peace and security for both sides and the establishment of an independent, viable state for the Palestinian people.
