Independent Radio Production

EDM number 1802 in 2001-02, proposed by Michael Fabricant on 23/10/2002.

That this House notes that only around 10 per cent. of BBC's radio output this year will be made by independent producers; notes that there is no statutory duty on the BBC to use independent radio producers whereas such a statutory duty does cover its television output; and calls upon Her Majesty's Government to give substance to its stated aim that the licence fee should be the venture capital for Britain's creative industries by introducing a statutory quota in the Communications Bill that requires the BBC to spend at least 10 per cent. of its radio programming budget on programmes made outside the Corporation.

This motion has been signed by a total of 11 MPs.
