Bus Services In Edinburgh

EDM number 246 in 2001-02, proposed by John Barrett on 16/10/2001.

That this House notes the intense competition which has developed between First Edinburgh and Lothian Buses, the two main bus companies in the City of Edinburgh; is concerned that any efforts to dominate popular main route servies could lead to a deterioration in the quality of public transport for both the people of Edinburgh and visitors to the capital; is further concerned that the eventual domination of either company could lead to the cut back or cancellation of smaller but crucial services along with increased fares for consumers; and awaits with interest the report of the Office of Fair Trading, which is currently investigating the matter.

This motion has been signed by a total of 17 MPs.
