Severn Trent Water

EDM number 436 in 2001-02, proposed by Harry Barnes on 16/11/2001.

That this House notes that in order to undertake a major private finance initiative Pathfinder scheme for the provision of modern homes, the North East Derbyshire District Council has scheduled numbers of its properties for demolition, but that its plans are currently being blocked with serious consequences by the failure of Severn Trent Water Limited to disconnect mains water services at 174 of these properties; also notes that the Council initially notified Severn Trent on 26th April of the need to start the disconnections, but there is no sign of the company acting on these requirements despite repeated letters, faxes, e-mails, phone calls, personal contacts and even the handing over of keys, which were finally found and returned after three months; further notes that steel shutters, copper tanks and other materials are being vandalised with flooding commencing; and expects Severn Trent to act upon its responsibilities forthwith and to apologise for its serious failings in this matter.

This motion has been signed by a total of 15 MPs.
