Honours

EDM number 665 in 2001-02, proposed by Derek Wyatt on 15/01/2002.

That this House notes that though the British Empire ceased in 1948 the use of the title continues in the Honours List, with the quaint but out-dated member of the British Empire (MBE), Order of the British Empire (OBE) and Commander of the British Empire (CBE); suggests that, if the United Kingdom is to continue to award honours to its people, the titles be updated so that they reflect the society of today; and calls for the establishment of a special committee of the House to bring forward the necessary reforms.

This motion has been signed by a total of 18 MPs.
