Nuclear Power (No. 2)

EDM number 73 in 2001-02, proposed by Paul Flynn on 03/07/2001.

That this House believes this country should be setting positive examples of sustainable development; notes with concern the attempts to resurrect unsustainable nuclear energy before the White Paper on existing nuclear waste is published; is further concerned that British Nuclear Fuels has failed to meet its requirements to reduce radioactive discharges at Sellafield made at the Ospar Conference in Sintra in July 1998; is worried that BNFL produced an internal paper demonstrating an increase in radioactive discharges which the company failed to make public, and only became known because of a leak; and calls upon Her Majesty's Government to be wary of positive claims for nuclear power when problems of plutonium, secrecy, waste, accidents and costs remain unresolved.

This motion has been signed by a total of 49 MPs.
