Abolition Of 5 14 National Tests

EDM number 1238 in 2002-03, proposed by John Barrett on 16/05/2003.

That this House welcomes the partnership agreement signed between the Liberal Democrat and Labour parties in Scotland which include a commitment to abolish national tests for 5 to 14 year olds; believes this move will allow teachers to spend more time teaching and allow children to spend more time learning; further believes that the abolition of these national tests, combined with the abolition of student tuition fees and the introduction of free personal care for the elderly, which has already been delivered by the Scottish Executive, illustrates the positive difference that devolution has made to Scotland; and calls on the UK Government to consider introducing similar measures for the rest of the country.

This motion has been signed by a total of 18 MPs.
