Green Belt And Remarks Of The Honourable Member For St Albans

EDM number 1833 in 2002-03, proposed by James Clappison on 28/10/2003.

That this House is appalled by the reported remarks of the honourable Member for St Albans that 'the need to protect the Green Belt was a campaign for the twentieth century' and 'we must build homes where they are needed and not where they are convenient'; believes that the Green Belt serves an invaluable role in preserving green lungs between our built-up areas, stops towns coalescing into each other and prevents the countryside from being concreted over; is convinced that preserving the Green Belt will be even more important in the years to come if the country is to maintain the quality of life for those living in both towns and villages in counties like Hertfordshire; and calls on Ministers to disassociate the Government from the view of the honourable Member.

This motion has been signed by a total of 19 MPs, 1 of these signatures have been withdrawn.
