That this House expresses its concern that Essex honourable members have not been consulted about the arbitrary changes to news gathering and broadcasting planned by Meridian Television; notes that this company is always pleased to include some Essex constituencies such as Thurrock as being within their broadcasting area when it comes to attracting advertising revenue; considers Meridian's proposal to cease broadcasting its news from their Maidstone, Kent base as an abrogation of conditions which it has accepted as part of its franchise and licence; and hopes that the ITC will extend the period of consultation so that Essex local authorities, honourable Members and other interested parties along the north bank of the Thames Gateway growth area can be properly consulted.
