Network Rail And In House Maintenance (No. 2)
EDM number 984 in 2002-03, proposed by Kelvin Hopkins on 28/03/2003.
That this House applauds the decision by Network Rail to take in-house track maintenance in two more regions; welcomes the decision as another major step in the progressive renationalisation of British railways; notes that John Armit, Network Rail, chief executive, has said 'he will not rule out taking other contracts in-house in seeking to reduce costs across the board'; recognises this decision as more evidence of the comprehensive failure of rail privatisation; and looks forward to the recreation of an integrated, publicly owned and publicly accountable state railway in the near future.
This motion has been signed by a total of 34 MPs.
