Oxfordshire Fire Control Centre

EDM number 1340 in 2003-04, proposed by Tony Baldry on 14/06/2004.

That this House notes with concern the proposal to reduce the number of UK fire control rooms from 49 to nine, resulting in one control centre for the South East region covering more than 120 miles from Oxfordshire to the Isle of Wight; further notes that these proposals do not have the support of Oxfordshire County Council's community safety representative and the Fire Brigades' Union Oxfordshire in relation to public safety concerns from the reduced ability to respond to 999 emergencies; and calls on the Government not to close the Kidlington Control Centre and to develop a separate response strategy for terrorism between existing fire control rooms.

This motion has been signed by a total of 8 MPs.
