City Of Literature Award For Edinburgh

EDM number 1739 in 2003-04, proposed by Mark Lazarowicz on 14/10/2004.

That this House welcomes the announcement by UNESCO that Edinburgh has been nominated the world's First City of Literature; congratulates all those in Edinburgh and Scotland who contributed to the success of the bid; welcomes the support given to the bid by the UK's UNESCO ambassador; and believes that the award will encourage the further flourishing of Scottish literature and the literary culture of Edinburgh, Scotland and the UK.
