Control Of Violent Video Games Classification System
EDM number 329 in 2004-05, proposed by Keith Vaz on 07/12/2004.
That this House condemns the recent rise in violent video games; further condemns the recent launch of JFK Reloaded, which allows players to simulate the shooting of former American President John F Kennedy; notes that the game can be easily downloaded from the internet without any control measures and be played by children younger than the recommended age limit; welcomes the Prime Minister's call for an independent study of the research in this field, parental education about the rating system, and better instructive labelling on games; and calls on the Government to urge the British Board of Film Classification to take a much more cautious approach and review all video games rather than leave it to the industry to regulate itself.
