Post Office Re-Invention Programme In Scotland

EDM number 346 in 2004-05, proposed by Mike Weir on 08/12/2004.

That this House notes that the Post Office has announced that the Post Office Reinvention Programme has been completed in Scotland; further notes that the Post Office has consulted on 154 branches of which 100 have closed, and that 35 further closures have been announced and 10 are in further consultation; further notes that only nine offices have not yet been closed due to representations from the public, despite the fact that there have been massive campaigns in support of local sub-post offices throughout Scotland; believes that sub-post offices are an essential part of our communities; and calls upon the Government to accept their social element and give support to prevent the closure of further sub-post offices in Scotland, and in particular to reconsider its ill-advised policy of direct payment of benefits which has seriously undermined many sub-post offices.

This motion has been signed by a total of 12 MPs.
