Granting Amnesty To Migrants
EDM number 217 in 2005-06, proposed by Diane Abbott on 25/05/2005.
That this House welcomes the excellent and successful example set by the Spanish Government in declaring an amnesty for illegal immigrants in the country; notes that this prompted most of the country's illegal workers to legalise their status, that almost 700,000 jobs have consequently been brought out of the black economy and that annual social security contributions will rise accordingly, helping to avert a looming pensions crisis; further notes that the move will prevent exploitation of migrant workers; and urges the Government to consider taking similar action in the UK.
This motion has been signed by a total of 10 MPs.
