Case Of Saqib Almas

EDM number 2509 in 2005-06, proposed by George Galloway on 05/07/2006.

That this House notes with concern the detention and proposed deportation of 26 year old Saqib Almas, a British citizen from birth who has lived in the UK since he was a baby, for having committed relatively minor offences; further notes that Saqib has served his prison sentence and has already been punished for the offences he has committed; believes cases such as Saqib's highlight a threat to civil liberties and human rights, of British as well as foreign nationals, which is contained in the over-hasty reaction to tabloid press criticism of the Home Office; and urges the Government to reconsider the proposal to deport anyone with foreign or dual nationality convicted of any imprisonable offence.

This motion has been signed by a total of 11 MPs.
