Leeds Supertram

EDM number 411 in 2005-06, proposed by Greg Mulholland on 27/06/2005.

That this House believes that the proposed Supertram scheme in Leeds will provide a major boost to the city's economy, growth and regeneration; notes that Leeds is the third largest and fastest growing city in the UK and that to ensure its ongoing development and prosperity, a high quality, modern and efficient public transport system including Supertram is essential; recognises that the scheme will keep the continually growing city moving as well as helping to alleviate the serious problems of traffic congestion and the environmental impact of that; warmly welcomes the support of the people of Leeds, Leeds City Council, METRO, Leeds Chamber of Commerce and the business community, Yorkshire Forward and the Super League champions Leeds Rhinos; and calls on the Government to end the uncertainty over the future of the scheme and announce the provision of funding to allow construction to begin with immediate effect.

This motion has been signed by a total of 12 MPs.
