Strategic Road Network

EDM number 77 in 2005-06, proposed by Alan Duncan on 17/05/2005.

That this House condemns the erosion of the importance of the English strategic road network, the motorways and trunk roads managed by the Highways Agency; notes that the strategic road network, the country's major transport asset, makes up just four per cent. of the road network but carries one third of all traffic; and calls upon the Government to put a stop to plans further to devolve and downgrade key sections of the network such as the M5 west and south of Bristol, much of the A1, and most roads in the South West and East Anglia.

This motion has been signed by a total of 56 MPs.
