London Olympics

EDM number 126 in 2006-07, proposed by Pete Wishart on 16/11/2006.

That this House is appalled at the rising costs of the London Olympics; notes with concern the political squabbling, recriminations and mismanagement that has been a feature of the London Olympics thus far; further notes that no one knows how much the Olympics will now cost; further notes the failure to foresee VAT payments on Olympic build has shattered public confidence in this project; believes that the lottery should not be further raided to bail the London games out, and that good causes and grass roots sports have suffered enough; recognises it was London that was desperate to secure these games and it is London that will benefit from the Olympic legacy and the regeneration of the Lower Lea Valley; further believes that it is London therefore that should shoulder the bulk of any over spend; and hopes that the Olympic Development Agency will get a grip of these problems and sort this mess out.
