Housing Totals For Hertfordshire

That this House notes with concern the unsustainable scale and nature of housing development proposed in the Draft East of England Plan Review and its likely impact on the county's Green Belt; is concerned that an appropropriate environmental capacity study was not undertaken to assist in drawing up the plans; further notes with concern the pressure these proposals will put on Hertfordshire's infrastructure, including water resources, schools, the health service, transport and the Green Belt; expresses grave concern about the flawed preparation and consultation process by which the plan has been prepared, not least the prejudicial meeting which the Minister for Housing and Planning held concerning Harlow North in July 2006; condemns the resulting decision by the Secretary of State to overrule the independent panel's conclusions about the scale and location of development in the county; and calls for the Government to reinstate the conclusions reached by the panel in June 2006 in the final draft of the plan.
