NORFOLK ISLAND'S BOUNTY DAY

EDM number 1622 in 2006-07, proposed by Andrew Rosindell on 05/06/2007.

That this House joins the people of Norfolk Island in celebrating Bounty Day on 8th June 2007, the 151st anniversary of Queen Victoria's gift to the Pitcairn Islanders; notes the historical links between Norfolk Island and Great Britain since its first sighting by Captain James Cook from HMS Resolution in 1774 and his subsequent naming of the island after the then Duchess of Norfolk; recognises the important part that these settlers had in forming the nucleus of the new society that continues to prosper today on the island; and further notes the importance of maintaining the deeply entrenched historical ties and shared heritage between the peoples of the UK and Norfolk Island for many centuries to come.

This motion has been signed by a total of 16 MPs.
