Shropshire Unitary Authority

EDM number 634 in 2006-07, proposed by Daniel Kawczynski on 16/01/2007.

That this House notes that all Shrewsbury Borough Labour councillors voted to prevent the people of Shrewsbury from having a referendum on the reformation of Shropshire County as a unitary authority; congratulates the Conservative councillors and the Liberal Democrat Councillor for ensuring that the people of Shrewsbury have a voice and a say over this important issue; further notes that the beautiful and proud town of Shrewsbury with its excellent Borough Council, the lowest council tax in Shropshire, one of the best chief executives in the West Midlands - Mr Robin Hooper, and a team of excellent professionals, should retain its Borough Council; and urges the people of Shrewsbury to vote against unitary authority which would cost millions in redundancies and take decisions away from local people.

This motion has been signed by a total of 7 MPs.
