Sri Lanka
EDM number 2558 in 2007-08, proposed by Andrew Pelling on 25/11/2008.
Categorised under the topics of Asia and Military operations.
That this House notes that another Parliamentary year has passed with the civil war in Sri Lanka remaining unresolved and vicious atrocities escalating on all sides; expresses its greatest concern at the suffering of the very large number of Tamil, Muslim and Singhalese people caught up in the conflict who have lost family members to violent deaths or abductions or who have been displaced from their homes, in some cases to live out in the open; implores the Sri Lankan government to recognise that a military solution that inevitably involves waging war on innocent Sri Lankan men, women and children will end in failure; and urges the Government to redouble its efforts in the difficult task of promoting moves to secure peace and harmony in Sri Lanka.
