Second Homes

EDM number 1078 in 2010-12, proposed by Timothy Farron on 23/11/2010.
Categorised under the topic of Housing benefits.

That this House notes that second home owners are granted a council tax subsidy of between 10 per cent. and 50 per cent.; acknowledges the size of the UK deficit and the need to make savings and believes that non-second home owners cannot afford to provide this subsidy; observes that in South Lakeland, for example, the subsidy costs local council tax payers over 1 million a year; believes that this money could be better spent on providing local services and keeping down the overall council tax bill; and calls on the Treasury to end the second homes council tax subsidy forthwith.

This motion has been signed by a total of 17 MPs.
