Development In Bolton-Le-sands

EDM number 2433 in 2010-12, proposed by David Morris on 14/11/2011.
Categorised under the topic of Planning.

That this House notes that Lancaster City Council has granted planning permission for 77 new homes on a greenfield site in Bolton-le-Sands; further notes that the only reason the Council accepted this development was because it feared losing at appeal and having costs awarded against it; believes that this system makes a mockery of local democracy, given that an overwhelming majority of local residents were against it, and they presented a 1,000 name petition; further believes that this system puts the needs of developers ahead of residents especially given that 900 homes are currently for sale within a three mile radius of the development; and demands that the Government should extend this right of appeal to the residents who have their communities built over.
