General Register Office

EDM number 2460 in 2010-12, proposed by John Mann on 22/11/2011.
Categorised under the topic of Registration of births, deaths and marriages.

That this House welcomes increasing interest in genealogy and family history; notes that to get a replicate birth, marriage or death certificate from the General Register Office (GRO) costs 9.25 per item, making it an expensive process; further notes that the Irish General Register Office operates a similar system to the UK GRO, but allows the public to purchase photocopies of reports for just over half the price of a full certificate; and calls on the Government and UK GRO to examine ways of making records cheaper and more accessible to the public.

This motion has been signed by a total of 8 MPs.
