Claudy Bombing

EDM number 684 in 2010-12, proposed by Gregory Campbell on 07/09/2010.
Categorised under the topics of Public inquiries and Terrorism.

That this House notes the recent Policing Ombudsman's report into the Claudy bombing in 1972 and the disturbing references in that report to collusion between the then Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, a senior police officer and the then Cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church, who between them ensured that one of the chief suspects in the Claudy case, a parish priest, was not questioned about and never faced trial regarding the atrocity, where nine innocent people lost their lives, but was transferred to the Irish Republic; and calls on the Government, the Roman Catholic Church and the surviving members of the Provisional IRA to apologise for their part in the cover-up and for all of those with any information regarding the incident to make it known so that the families of those murdered and injured can at long last see some form of closure.
