Turkey, The Eu And Cyprus

EDM number 748 in 2010-12, proposed by Jim Sheridan on 15/09/2010.
Categorised under the topic of European Union.

That this House takes due note of the recent speech made by the Prime Minister in Ankara, in which he expressed his full support for Turkey's future membership of the European Union; expresses concern, however, that no mention was made of necessary prior conditions; is mindful of the injustice still faced by the citizens of the Republic of Cyprus 36 years after the illegal invasion and continued occupation of the North of the island; regrets the continuous refusal of Turkey to enter into meaningful discussions on a just settlement; and calls on the Prime Minister and the Government to make clear to Turkey that a just settlement of the Cyprus problem is essential to the progress of Turkey's application for membership of the European Union.

This motion has been signed by a total of 15 MPs, 1 of these signatures have been withdrawn.
