Plastic Packaging Recyling Targets

That this House acknowledges the positive contribution plastic packaging makes to reducing waste and greenhouse gas emissions; recognises the efforts made by the plastic packaging industry to reduce packaging volumes through the WRAP programme; notes the work done by the industry to divert plastic from landfill, including the industry-led Plastics 2020 Challenge; further recognises that many English councils lag behind their Welsh counterparts in terms of plastic collection; furtheracknowledges the need for many local authorities to collect and sort a wider range of plastic products; calls for the introduction of material-specific recycling targets at the local level to encourage investment in plastic recycling infrastructure; and furthercalls on the Government to adopt the targets recommended by the Advisory Committee on Packaging, which worked with industry to define a suitable recycling roadmap.
