Grooming And The Lessons Of Rochdale

EDM number 551 in 2012-13, proposed by George Galloway on 15/10/2012.
Categorised under the topic of Children's social services.

That this House notes the shocking report into the Rochdale grooming case which identifies gross failures by both the police and social services in taking seriously the allegations brought by the victims; believes that those primarily responsible for these failures should be relieved of their duties; further notes that the grooming of vulnerable under-age children and particularly young girls is a very serious problem; further notes that this is not a problem confined to particular ethnic groups but is found in many different ethnic groups; further believes that there needs to be more education amongst young people and parents to identify the dangers of grooming and that the authorities must not make presumptions about the young people who come to them with grooming allegations as they seem to have done in the Rochdale case; and congratulates the police and social services elsewhere who have acted effectively to identify, arrest, charge and prosecute those responsible for the exploitation of young people for sexual purposes.
