International Stammering Awareness Day And The Scottish Stammering Network

EDM number 536 in 2015-16, proposed by Patricia Gibson on 19/10/2015.
Categorised under the topics of Charities, Health education and preventive medicine and Health services.

That this House welcomes International Stammering Awareness Day on 22 October 2015, which raises awareness of stammering, a condition that affects one in 100 adults worldwide; recognises the excellent work of the Scottish Stammering Network, which has directly supported hundreds of individuals who have a stammer through its support groups and open days; congratulates the Scottish Stammering Network in obtaining a grant of £5,000 from the Scottish Government to hold a series of Open Days across Scotland in 2015-16 with the first Scotland wide open day being in Glasgow on 14 November 2015; acknowledges that these open days are free of charge to attend with guest speakers sharing their experiences of living with a stammer, as well as a range of workshops which aim to be interactive, fun and useful to empower people who have a stammer; and wishes the charity well as it moves forward into 2016, with its plans to help more people who stammer by expanding its support groups and open days across Scotland.

This motion has been signed by a total of 40 MPs.
